I thank all for coming up to do the work of the church during clean-up week at the start of September.
The giving of gifts has been steady this summer, so we have not fallen behind in the missions of the church. Our expenses were greater than what we received in August as this includes the first payment towards our electrical repair work.
In the middle of September a problem with the sewage line at the parsonage occurred. The parsonage has a septic system rather than a sewer line into the city’s system as you find in most homes in our area. The septic tank was last pumped out in May, and it only lasted four months before it had to be pumped again at a cost of approximately $900. The SLT, with the help of Jeff Grawe, called a company to help with the drain field. This company will attempt to clear the pipe going from the tank to the leach field by pressure washing; this will cost approximately $1,000 and hopefully will work. If not, the only alternative is to excavate and replace the drainage sewer line, which will be a greater cost. The sewage line has not been updated since 1963. The work has to be done or else we will be pumping the tank every four months.
I share this with you so you are informed of the unexpected expenses we are having at the parsonage.
Thank you,
Marv Kelley,
SLT President
