On Sunday, October 20 I read the following statement to the congregation regarding the sewer system issues at the parsonage:
I wrote in the last newsletter of this problem.
The septic system was pumped for the first time this year approximately five months ago.
When this problem occurred again, a plumber was called to unplug the lines in the parsonage. At this time it was the septic tank that had to be pumped and emptied. Most of this cost was passed along to the renters, as they were told not to use certain items. It was found that other items were put into the lines that weren’t supposed to be used.
Two days later it was determined that the tank had to be pumped again. The septic system crew said that the waste had come back out of the septic system disposal area. This is when we found we had a problem with the disposal area. This system has worked for over 60 years with no problems.
The last septic system crew told us there was a possibility to back pressure wash the system with 1,000-pounds-per-inch pressure at a cost of $1,000; this did not work. So far we have spent close to $8,000, including the renter’s share.
The SLT has contacted another contractor about making a new septic system field. He has worked with Arapahoe County before and he thinks that we should be grandfathered in since we already have a system. The cost estimate is $5,000. To connect to the city sewer system would cost a lot more.
We are trying to make repairs in the cheapest way to fix the septic system problem.
The church financial outlook appears to be okay with our beginning balance for September at $91,588 and the ending balance of $92,461. The income was a little higher until we paid some of the parsonage sewer bill of $6,300 (this includes the $8,000 mentioned in the above statement).
The audio/visual system update is coming along; we hope it will be usable by Christmas.
As far as our electrical contractor goes, he is still trying to attain a permit, when I called on September 14, 2024.
Thank you,
Marv Kelley,
SLT President
